Soap Box

Anybody familiar with Dove's real beauty campaign? It's a beautiful, you should check it out. I don't think I quite got it until tonight. Case in point, me. I took a picture I liked and messed with it, only to turn around and look at same photo and think I looked gross. I know I will NEVER look at magazine pictures the same again. I'm all for a little subtle editing but I was just shocked at what I did to myself - and I don't even know what I'm doing! My girls are always going to know about this, it has to help some in the whole body image war, don't ya think? You can't help but be bombarded with it but knowing that those people probably don't look like that everyday of their life, that's just power. Oh and those diet "before and afters" ... whatever. Just a little public service announcement to all the beautiful women in my life!

I love the Dove adds! And I know how easy it is to manipulate a picture! My sil and I were talking about this a few months ago, so I took a picture of myself and did a total ps make over! It's amazing how easy it was! http://www.mendenhallcreative.com/melissa/ps/big%20picture.jpg

And yeah, it's hard with daughters to have them KNOW that those people AREN'T real! Even though I KNOW it, I still struggle with it..

YOU'RE beautiful btw!!

I think the orginal is SOOOOO much better!!! So freaky they can do that stuff. Love me the real deal ;) I understand body image issues. It's really not worth it; wish we could understand that when it's really important. Great pics Rae!

I like the "real" picture better, Rae! And the girls need no enhancement either. It's too bad that with things the way they are these days, no one realizes that about themselves...

Thanks to all of you for saying what I wanted to say -- I thought I'd be ignored cause I'm just the Momma that loves her so much and thinks she's beautiful all the time, even without coffee!
